Clean Energy Suppression/sources

Why are we being demonized & taxed by Governments for polluting when they have forced oil & Coal upon us by suppressing cleaner energy alternatives, which are more efficient, have no impact on our environment, would create more jobs, etc... ?
Inventors with discoveries that would benefit humanity have been been either bought out, imprisoned, or murdered.
